This post is all about 2 small words, which can make a huge difference to peoples lives.
I’m talking about: Thank you.
It’s amazing how powerful a simple thank you can be. By showing your appreciation to someone, you can; make their day, boost their self-esteem and help turn an average day for them into something special.
Whilst it’s possible to utilise this for business development, by thanking clients and prospective clients, I am not going to cover that here. Instead, I would like to focus exclusively on the amazing power of these two simple words, to enrich another human-beings life.
Let me explain. When we thank someone for something they have done for us; either face to face, on the phone, by email, letter, tweet or blog comment – we have the power to do something incredible. We have the power to improve their quality of life, either by a tiny amount or massive amount. This is the polar opposite of the kind of fake gratitude, which some people use as a way to make personal or commercial gains.
We each have numerous opportunities to thank someone each day and in my experience, each time I make someone feel good, it makes me feel good too. If you were being harsh, you might call that an ulterior motive. However, everything we do is driven by a motive and if this simple expression of gratitude makes others and ourselves feel better, then why not do it?

How very true! Thank YOU for articulating so beautifully. Am just writing thank you cards to 3 inspirational presenter I saw on Friday and will aim to make them feel incredible.
Thanks for the comment. I wonder how many others will take time out to thank them three presenters?
Thank YOU for this and all your posts that I have read and enjoyed to date!.
Thanks very kind of you Nicola!!
This is such a coincidence! Well, not really I guess as we have much in common! I just wrote at the week end a blog post (going out on Friday) saying a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped me set up new website and get the book established etc. I didn’t mention anyone by name but huge thanks to you Mr Connolly! Your advice and support has been invaluable! Merci! Gracias, Hvala, Tak, Apké na wo, Danke sehr, Aabar, Muito Obrigado, Cheers, ………
Thank you Jane. That is quite a coincidence.
I always tell new commentators on my blog, “Thanks for stopping by!” I think it’s important to welcome people to your site and begin to build a kind of conversation with them. In addition, I always remember to thank people for favors, big or small. I also thank my clients for working with me. I’d like to think it helps out my customer service points, haha.
Thanks for the awesome post. =)
I agree. When you comment on a blog for the first time, it’s good to be welcomed. Doesn’t happen as often as it should.
Thanks Corey.
Whether you believe it or not, I just read this post. The reason why you might not believe it? I have written something very, very similar earlier this week: http://marcdierens.be/2009/10/21/what-if-everybody-said-the-magic-words/
Needless to say: I agree with you. Thanks for another great post!
Great minds think alike Marc!
