A blog for bloggers

It’s now just 23 days since I established this blog and the feedback has been breathtaking.  It has achieved more in those 23 days than I could possibly have hoped for and now that the dust has settled, it’s time for me to refine the focus of the blog.  As a result, I shall be focusing future posts on ideas and answers that fellow bloggers are most likely to find of interest.

The primary change you will notice, is that future posts will be written exclusively with bloggers in mind.

But that’s not all!

Blog ideas with a twist

I will still be sharing professional development and business development ideas with you, though from now on it will be about how they relate to bloggers and people with blog based businesses.

Why?

Simple: There’s a lot more to making your blog a commercial success, than getting lots of traffic and then putting ads / affiliate links on it.  In fact, my marketing blog generated well over six figures in income for my business, long before I placed any form of advertising on it!

Also, there are already a number of great blogs that cover those more traditional areas of blog development.  I’m looking to do something different here. For example, you can expect to see ideas here on subjects like; the psychology behind blog copy writing, how to build a business plan for your blogging business, interviews with blogging entrepreneurs, organisational tips, where to find great blog resources and even some blog-related news.

The bottom line is that I want this to be a blog that fellow bloggers will find useful.  So, expect to see ideas here that cover some slightly unconventional subjects for a blogging blog!

I hope you enjoy the new, more blogger focused approach to The Ideas Blog.  Feel free to share your thoughts and any suggestions you might have.

Hello Jason. Yes, a lot of the content has already been slanted toward blog-related topics. Thanks for the feedback.

      Thanks Su,

Glad you like the idea. I knew you would find the unconventional angle interesting :) Thanks for the feedback.

    Great, Jim,

Coming from a man of your resource and calibre, this is exciting news. I love the simplicity and ‘cut-to-the-chase’ nature of this blog. ‘Grab and go’ content that works is a strong offering. Your focus will add huge value.

As a newbie, there are so many areas of confusion and inefficiency. It’s like being stuck in an episode of ‘Lost’.

I look forward to being helpful in any way I can.

    Best, Robin

      Thanks for the feedback Robin.

I’ve never been great with buzzwords and bullshit, so cutting to the chase sits well with me.

I love your remark; “there are so many areas of confusion and inefficiency. It’s like being stuck in an episode of ‘Lost’.” Brilliant.

Thanks for the kind words sir.

Looking forward to the new angle for the blog.

Have you just changed the theme too? It looks a lot clearer and cleaner to me.

      Well spotted!

The theme is still Headway (I love it) but I decided to change the look of the blog a little. That’s the great thing about Headway, anyone can change anything about their blog at any time. It took me about 15 minutes :)

I…am adverse to the idea of branding this as a “blogging blog.” And I liked the old design. :P

Here’s the thing…ideas, especially unconventional ones, need not be narrowed. I understand the common sense behind it, I’m just adverse to it. A few simple words turns any one of these posts into a universal idea. Not just one for bloggers…

Whatever you write will be great, though. So good luck with the new direction.

      Thanks for the feedback Corey.

One of the lessons I’ve gleaned from 23 years in marketing, is that the more vague you are, the less effective your message is.

Why is that woman always so negative about everything you write, yet she keeps coming back?

I guess Corys constant negativity an example of what you said yesterday about not letting commentors dictate what you write. I know she’s a kid but it would drive me nuts and is one of my concerns about when I start my blog.

    Any advise Jimbo?

Thanks for making a couple of interesting points Rachael.

If you open up the comments on a blog, you have to understand that not every comment will be saying how great you are.

Yes, you are right that this is an example of what I was writing about yesterday. You can’t allow one negative commenter to sway what you write. You need to look at all the data available and then make your decision. Whilst I read every comment I get and try to respond to them all too, I’m hardly going to let one negative comment change the path of what I do.

If you are going to start a blog don’t let Corey’s comments put you off. Some people are just more antagonistic than others – that’s life. I’m sure Corey will find something positive to say eventually, or find a more interesting blog to read. These things have a habit of sorting themselves out.

      Thanks again.

I’m sorry to be an antagonist. Once again, I comment because I like the blog. If my ideas aren’t always in sync with what everyone else thinks, then I don’t care. If I present them in a way that seems overly harsh…I don’t care. I can’t change the way I always am. Outspoken and slightly brash. My mother is like that. My friends love me for it.

I won’t comment anymore. I’d prefer not to be penalized for giving my opinion. Which, by the way, was asked for.

      I’m not negative. I’m argumentative.

I shall await your blogger ideas with interest! Congratulations on a fresh approach Jim, you know who you’re writing to.

      Thanks Louise,

You’re absolutely right. It’s extremely important to know ‘who’ you are writing too and my intention was always to refine my focus until I found a suitable niche.

As you know, it’s better to be 100% relevant to a smaller group than 10% relevant to a larger one.

    Hello Jim –
I work for a tv news station, a couple years ago we started a “talk-show” – because all we know is news, it’s been a challenge. Just the past couple of months I’ve started pushing more social media on our viewers, it’s been a slow process but it’s still going! A friend mentioned that I should follow you on twitter, I did and have been using tips and reading your blog to keep myself in the loop a bit. You’ve helped a ton so far – thanks so much!

Thanks for the kind words Kristy!

Keep on reading and I will try and stay interesting. I love a challenge :)

    Hey Jim,

You continually provide value, expertise and useful information to all the communities you serve… definitely the real deal and not an imitator. You’re an asset to the blogging community and those who desire to be better, smarter and more capable. You can count on my continued support for all your efforts and thanks for the daily insight and inspiration…your gold : )

      Hi Mark.

Hard to know how to reply to your comment, other than I will try to live up to it. I don’t usually get lost for words. Thanks Mark.

Your blog is brilliant Jim. I really do love it.

I have made a huge error recently though in “saving” your blog entries until I have to time to read them a little less distractedly than when I wade my way through an extraordinary amount of inconsequential tripe. But by the time I have done that, there is no time left to read the good ones.

From now on, you are top of the pile!

Keep up the FANTASTIC job! Inspirational!
